So goes the famous Hunphrey Bogart quote in the 1942 film 'Casablanca'.
The Casablanca of 2015 has lost all of the raffish charm of the 40's, replacing it with frenetic traffic and a kitsch souk. There is absolutely no concession to aesthetics, with relentless cinderblock apartments relieved only by multicoloured washing and festooned satellite dishes.
The vibe is quite unlike laid back Tanger. Bars serve alcohol openly here, and a heavy pall of cigarette smoke shrouds the oh-so-cool crowds of young Moroccans out on the town.
We unanimously agree that Tanger's subtle delights far outweigh the cosmopolitan city benefits of Casablanca.
